Volunteers Needed

My heart is warmed by the response to the request for volunteers and we are slowing getting to the point that folks can work just once a month! We still need a few more folks to make that a reality, so if you are interested, please contact Market Chance Claar-Pressley, who is coordinating the volunteers for me. Thank you Chance! You can email Chance at chancita@gmail.com .

Kathy Barnes of So Koi came to help with the Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville Market Tuesday morning and we got the meat orders packaged in record time! Thanks! What a relief to have help on Tuesday morning! Kathy also volunteered to work at Lilburn Market on Thursday; however, she was a bit under the weather and was not able to make it! Hope you are feeling better, Kathy!

Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks came to drop of her wonderful Gluten Products and stayed to work at the Lilburn Market on Thursday! I was thrilled! She has been busy with family obligations and spending time with the “grands”, and although I am happy for her, I sure have missed her smiling face and energizer-bunny-attitude! Of course she also brought me a new ‘goodie’ to try and that also was greatly appreciated! Look for her new Gluten Free “Hummingbird Bread” to be added to her offerings soon!

Thanks also to Susan Cocker who worked hard this past Thursday helping to set up and working with Marie to check folks out. Geni (Yolanda) Wallace and her fine sons were also a tremendous help setting up the Lilburn Market yesterday and we had it done in about 45 minutes! Bruce Wallace, (the Dad!)came at Market close and got my car loaded! Thank you all! Time passed very quickly and everyone worked efficiently to get items distributed and Market ready to go! A very sincere thank you to all!

We still need YOU! The goal is to get enough folks on board so that we can rotate volunteer duties. Can you spare a few hours once a month? Without you as Members, the Market would not exist and now the Market needs your help!

Please click Volunteer Information for the Lilburn Market for the particulars! Thanks for your help!

Sarah Rockey is the primary volunteer at the Hamilton Mill Market. Pat Gibbon has also stepped up to help us out! Thank you ladies!

Please click Volunteer Information for the Hamilton Mill Market for the particulars! Thanks for your help!

If you have a free hour or two on Tuesday morning between 10:00am and Noon, please consider helping out at the Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville Market. This is prep work for the Tuesday Market pickup as well as packing meat orders for the other Markets. Please contact Maryanne at 404-432-4337.

and now for the news…

Marie of Bakery on Brooks has done it again! Yes, yesterday at Market I got to taste her latest Gluten Free creation: Hummingbird Bread! With some of the same ingredients as the famous Southern Hummingbird Cake, (pineapple, pecans, banana) this bread is a great Breakfast Bread or wonderful treat in the afternoon! Her Rolls, Paleo Bites and Cookies have all been a big hit on the Markets and all of us Gluten Free Folks appreciate her adventuresome spirit in creating wonderful treats that we can eat! I have to admit that her Chocolate Chip Cookies are truly my downfall! They are truly ‘made in heaven’!

Jay and Patti of Dances With Bees are back this week! Use honey in your Lemonade for a great flavor! Add some crushed Raspberries from Doug’s Garden and you will never go back to plain ole Lemonade again! Great in Tea, also!

Patti makes some outstanding Natural Body Products from the honey and beeswax. I have her Gardener’s Friend Soap on my list this week! Wow – it really works to get those ‘playin-in-the-dirt’ hands clean and keeps them soft. Fantastic product!

… this and that …

Today is Flag Day! Fly our Flag today in honor of our country and the brave men and women that have fought for over 200 hundred years for our freedom. Our National Anthem is The Star Spangled Banner written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 as a poem entitled “Defense of Fort McHenry” The poem was later put to the tune of The Anacreontic Song by John Stafford Smith, modified somewhat and named “The Star Spangled Banner”. It was proclaimed our National Anthem by Congress when Woodrow Wilson was president in 1931.

This morning as I placed the flag in its holder, I had a flashback to my childhood. We flew the flag everyday in front of our home. It was a privilege and a much sought after honor to participate in raising (and lowering) the flag each day with one of the parents and say the “Pledge of Allegiance”. I spent many Summers attending Fort Scott Camp, outside of Cincinnati, Ohio and can remember being the youngest camper in the Color Guard for Flag raising and lowering because I knew how to fold the flag! Please take a moment to listen to the words of the 4th verse of The Star Spangled Banner, reflect on the words and proudly display our Flag!

The Star Spangled Banner (4th verse)

It is time to say – thank you for taking the time to read this missive…
