Bruce is now home and starting his healing and recovery. My Daily Bread has been with the Market since our opening and they are like extended family. They have consistently provided us with wonderful organic baked goods, blackberries and blueberries in season; have come to the Markets as “Farmer of the Day” and generally gone above and beyond for us. Now we can help them! Please keep Bruce, Dabrielle and their son Brandon in your prayers!

Ancient Awakenings
Wow! We had a LOT of orders for all the delicious, healthy products from Ancient Awakenings this past week which tells me two things! One: we all really like their products and Two: You are reading the Market emails! (Thank you!) Ancient Awakenings will be available again for the first Market in June!

Bruce had surgery and had three stints placed. Although he is in considerable pain, he is doing well. Prayer is powerful and I join in Dabrielle’s request for your prayers for Bruce as well as for Dabrielle and their son, Brandon. I will keep you informed about Bruce’s condition and recovery.

My Daily Bread
Bruce has certainly had some major health challenges the last month and now he faces open heart surgery. The situation is best told by Dabrielle:
“For those who don’t know yet, Bruce is in the hospital awaiting open heart surgery.
He passed out at Suwanee market and fell to the concrete suffering a 4 inch gash to his heat, a concussion, and lots of bruising. When all the confusion was sorted out by the caridologist, he actually had stopped breathing and his defribulator went off 4 times to shock him back.
After a heart cath, they discovered a calcified block directly from his aorta to the large portion of his arterial feed that is 80% blocked and cannot be stinted. The only option is open heart surgery.
They are awaiting the Plavix to leave his system so they can operate. He will have a long road to recovery including a month bed rest and 3 of cardiac rehab.
They are hoping to do the surgery on Monday, but may be able to do it on Friday if things move faster with the Plavix.
Bruce LOVES doing the coops and I know he will miss you all, but he is grounded for awhile.
We will do our best to get back up and running after his surgery.

Ancient Awakenings
I am absolutely addicted to the Coconut Vanilla/Banana Kefir and the Grape Kefir and I hope you all have found your favorites as well! Originally when we started with these great folks, their products were being delivered by one of our other Farmers. It hasn’t worked out quite the way we thought it would. In an effort to keep Ancient Awakenings’ products, we had to come up with a ‘work around’! Right now, the best we can do is a once a month delivery which will be the first Market of each month. However, so that we can all stock up on their wonderful fermented products, Dana and Steve do have items listed on Market this week. PLEASE order what you will need until our next delivery on June 2nd! We hope to go back to a weekly delivery at some point, but in the mean time, I am grateful that we can still get their products!

Sarah Rockey, who has dedicated her time to the Market since its creation and who now manages the Hamilton Mill Market, celebrated her 30th Birthday on Friday, April 22nd! Happy Birthday, Sarah! Not only does Sarah work at Market, she also works for Vicky and Steve at Fry Farm, Ricky Brown at Back River Farm and Drisdell Consulting! You are are an amazing woman and I am grateful that you are a part of Market. You are a blessing in my life!

Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has let me know that chicken will be available next month. He will also be processing Ducks and Turkeys. For those of you who had the pleasure of trying the Turkey Bologna, be advised it will be available again! WoW! I really like the Turkey Bologna and it is a treat to have Lunchmeat with no nitrites! This week, Greg has listed Chicken Gizzards and Pork Spare Ribs on Special. The Ribs are meaty and have excellent flavor – great grilled on slow cooked in the crockpot!
Doug of Doug’s Garden still has Carrots and is offering them again this week! Per Doug, this will probably be the last week for them because they will start to lose their sweetness. Three different quantities to choose from! These are YUMMY!
Vicky and Steve of Fry Farm are trying something new this year! Harvest Boxes. These will include a variety of veggies available for Harvest on Market Day! Matt Fry, Vicky and Steve’s son who also works at the Farm will also include a handy “Usage Guide” in case you are not familiar with the included Veggies! Yay Matt! In addition, this week Vicky has listed: Popcorn, Cilantro, 2 types of Watrecress, Red Russian Kale, Lettuce Mix, 2 types of Spinach and Hakurei Turnips.
Kathy Barnes of So-Koi is offering a Special on Einkorn Berries and Einkorn Ground Flour. Great savings! Be sure and check it out!
Be sure and check out the Water Buffalo and Alpaca offerings from David and Shalley of Carrell Farms! All of their Sausage Products are delicious; however, I am partial to the Water Buffalo Longaniza and the Jalapeno Cheese Water Buffalo Sausage! Check them out!
In addition to sharing the responsibility of raising Water Buffalo and Alpacas, Shalley Carrell has worked hard to develop a Skin Care line of Products made with Tallow from the animals they raise! Many of you have tried some of Shalley’s products and have given RAVE reviews. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure, be sure and peruse the offerings from Buffalo Gal Grassfed Beauty. The Black Lab, “Dudley” is still vacationing up in Ohio with my brother Michael and his wife Karen and his Springer Spaniel cousin, Doyle. He celebrated his 11th birthday recently. I miss him like crazy but know that he is well-loved. Michael takes Doyle and Dudley and their friend Macy to a 100 acres property to run on a daily basis so he has plenty of room to explore the woods and run! He also has a fenced yard to play in and it has been ‘Dudley proofed’ – I told Michael he was the ultimate ‘escape artist’ and he believed me after Dudley ATE 2 pickets to escape! just thought you would like an update…

Like Arugula, it is spicy, but not ‘pepper’ spicy! Great addition to salads!
