Group Buy Cod Liver Oil and some other Great News!

Greetings All:

Really Great News

Although Marie of Bakery on Brooks has been very busy with her volunteer position, she generously found time to bake some items for the Gluten Free Members this week! Yay! Marie’s goodies will be available on the Farmers’ Sale Table at your Market! Get there early for pickup or you will miss out!

This week at Market we will be taking orders for Green Pasture Products. They offer Fermented Cod Liver Oil, Skate Oil, X-Factor Butter Oil, Coconut Oil Blend infused with Cod Liver Oil, Skate Oil and the X-Factor Butter Oil, Pure Virgin Coconut Oil and Ghee.

You can open the Price List and Order Form by clicking Price List and Order Sheet

I did my best to make the document easy to understand by Listing the products under categories. The price listed DOES include shipping and you are saving about 10% off the product and at least $10 in shipping if you ordered it yourself. We must have a minimum order of 12 items to get the prices that are listed on the document. All orders must be pre-paid at Market this week. I will order the product on Friday morning and we will have it at Market pickup next week, October 16th.

For those of you who already use Green Pasture Products, you are aware of the benefits; for those of you who are new to the products, I have listed some known benefits below:

2. Improves nervous system and brain functioning
3. Reduces stiffness, inflammation and joint pain
4. Reduces eczema

Fermented cod liver oil is sourced from organ tissues that contain high nutrient levels. Fermentation tends to transform natural vitamins into metabolites of co-factor enzymes that are easily absorbed by the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in cod liver oil and it contains more Vitamin A than any other common food.

The best vitamin D comes from the sun. With Winter right around the corner we will no longer be able to take advantage of playing in the dirt, swimming, golfing, riding bikes, playing tennis. Ramp up your immune system for whatever nasty little bugs that naturally come our way in colder weather.

I admit, for you newbies, Cod Liver Oil is NOT my favorite and I literally hold my breath and drink a 1/2 glass of Sam’s sweet, fresh milk to get it down everyday, but for me… it works. I noticed a difference in stamina and energy within about a week of starting on the product. For you folks who just can’t imagine the taste, the non-gel gaps are a definite option!

Green Pasture Website
will give you a plethora of information! David Wetzel, the owner of this family run business has some great articles as well as a selection of articles from many other sources.

Thanks for taking time to read this information and we will see you tomorrow at Market!

Joyful thoughts and bountiful blessings,

It was a chilly 31 degrees this morning with beautiful blue skies and gorgeous views. I couldn’t ask for a prettier place to call home!

Please put her phone number in your contact list so if you have any issues on Market day you can contact Sarah directly.

Sarah Rockey 470-767-5655

Market News

It is with great sadness that I tell you that Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks will no longer be baking for us. To our Gluten Free Members, including yours truly, this is definitely not-a-good thing! Marie’s bakery items consistently ‘wowed’ us all and we have become spoiled with all the truly excellent Gluten Free items she offered to us. Although it is with a very heavy heart that I say goodbye, I wish her God’s continued blessings in her journey. Marie is very involved in volunteer activities and her family. Perhaps if her situation changes, she will be back. She has touched our lives with her energy, goodness, spirit, integrity and love and I am grateful!

New Farmer

Please join me in welcoming Tammy and Jeff Sosby of Peacefield Farm! Here is what Tammy has to tell us about their family farm:

“Peacefield Farm is a family owned and operated farm. The farm has been in the family since the mid 1800`s. We have strong Christian beliefs. We strive to offer the best healthy, naturally grown produce the way God intended it to be. We are certified naturally grown. We follow the national organic guidelines. We offer hydroponic tomatoes year round, and seasonal produce that we grow outside on raised beds with drip irrigation from our wells, and inside high tunnel houses on raised beds. We make our on compost with all plant materials using no animal manure and we make our own organic fertilizer as a supplement to the compost. Thus providing healthy grown produce leaving a small footprint in the environment. Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good. May God bless you.”

To start out, Peacefield Farm is offering: Red Potatoes, Green Tomatoes and Red Beefsteak Tomatoes! I will be ordering some of each! Welcome Tammy and Jeff! We will see you soon as Farmer of the Week!

Vicky and Steve of Fry Farm are back this week with some new Winter Veggies for us. They include: Arugula, Mustard Greens, Mixed Sweet Peppers and Popcorn (both on and off the cob)! I have had several folks ask if this is GMO free! And the answer is Yes! Vicky and Steve are Certified Naturally Grown and use no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides! This Popcorn is FABULOUS! Buying it on the cob is a good lesson for the children in where popcorn comes from… letting them twist and turn the ears in their little hands to remove the kernels will be a fun activity! (and keep them busy for a bit!)

I urge every Member to read the Grower Guidelines which delineate the requirements for Farmer participation in the Market.

Doug of Doug’s Garden is waiting for Mother Nature to finish with his Winter veggies and he believes he will have items to offer next week!

Ricky Brown of Back River Farm is also waiting for Winter Veggies to harvest. At present, Ricky is offering: Peppers and Eggplant! Keep an eye out for other items in the next week!

Andrew and his crew at The Veggie Patch have a plethora of Winter Seedlings, (oh, how I miss my garden!) Herbs and Veggies. In addition, they also offer some Ready to Eat Products…sauces, soups, pickles..be sure and check them out!

A Few Volunteers Still Needed

Please consider helping out Sarah, your Market Coordinator on pickup day! She works very hard to organize, setup, breakdown and serve your needs! Thanks to Karen Thain and Sara Heath who generously volunteer their time.

If you are interested in helping out at the Market, please contact Market Volunteer Coordinator, Chance Claar-Pressley. Thank you Chance! You can email Chance at chancita@gmail.com .

…this and that…

I am slowing unpacking and organizing! What a chore! Sarah came up today and toted boxes up from the basement, so I have LOTS to do this week!

The Black Lab continues to guard the Homestead and is most displeased that the dogs who live nearby are allowed to roam free and he is not! He lets me know that they are ‘in sight’ by his really annoying high-pitched bark/whine/cry! It is most infuriating/bothersome/exasperating! (just ask Sarah!) If anyone has any suggestions to assist in changing this behavior, believe me I am more than happy to listen!

Thank you for taking the time to read this missive!

Pickup Day

Market Pickup will be on Thursday from 2:30 – 4:30pm.

As of this writing, the total Market orders are less than $500. There must be a minimum of $650 in orders to make it feasible for delivery, set-up and pickup. If this minimum is not reached, you will be notified at Market close (6:00pm Monday) and given the option to cancel your order or pick it up at the Lawrenceville location. If you have any questions, please contact Maryanne at 404-432-4337.

Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide you with what you want from the local Farmers/Growers and Producers; but, please understand that Buying Local means supporting those who are committed to providing ‘Local’!

Marie of Bakery on Brooks has put her items in the “vacation mode” this week. Please keep Marie in your prayers as she is also praying for God’s direction in whether or not to continue with the Market. Baking is a time consuming and laborious task. In addition to the wonderful Gluten Free items Marie bakes for us, she is continually ‘experimenting’ and creating new recipes for us to enjoy Gluten Free items that have the same type of ‘deliciousness’ that we enjoyed in eating Wheat based goodies! From her Cornbread, Cookies, Sweet Breads and Sandwich Breads, she has more than ‘mastered’ the art of truly delicious Gluten Free baking! I am grateful that she has been with the Markets and pray that God, in His infinite wisdom will show her the direction He wishes for her to travel. Please keep her in your prayers!

PLEASE READ!! Important Market Information

For Chrome users or plain text users,
you will find this easier to read and be able to see pictures if you go to the Market and choose Weblog …it’s easier on the eyes!

Greetings Hamilton Mill Market Members:

I hope this finds you all well and you enjoyed the gorgeous weekend with family and/or friends!

Please get your orders in before 6:00pm MONDAY!

Market Update

In the past Farmers/Growers had to deliver their items on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to accommodate each of the Heirloom Living Market pickup locations. I also spent 3 full days preparing for and holding each Market in addition to the hours spent doing the back-office chores. Moving to the Mountains required a change in the operational model. The Farmers/Growers now can ‘make the rounds’ to all of the Markets on one day!

Our Farmers, Growers and Producers have been very good to us; delivering orders even when there were only one or two items for the Market. The upside has been that rarely do we NOT receive items because it was not ‘cost effective’ for a Farmer to bring it to Market. The downside has been for the Farmers/Growers/Producers who have made the effort but spent more in their time and gas then the product was worth. In other words they lost money serving our needs.

The total for the Market orders at the Hamilton Mill Market have continually fallen short of expected minimums. I have worked to increase Market growth in the past and will continue my efforts via more listings on various internet sites. Word of Mouth advertising by our current Members is the best way to grow the Market. The effort of the Farmers, Coordinators, Market Manager and Volunteers at present far outweigh the benefits. Please do your part and pass on information about the Market to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. As of this writing, the total Market orders are less than $200.

Thankfully, Volunteer Coordinators have stepped up to oversee the Markets and I will be available to help out a bit at each of the Markets.

Sarah Rockey is the Market Coordinator for the Hamilton Mill Market! Sarah has played an integral part of Heirloom Living Market since its creation in March 2013. I have every confidence in her abilities. You will find that Sarah is quite knowledgeable about nutrient-dense foods, the gluten-free lifestyle, the Paleo Diet and other areas of good health practices! Her dedication to the Market and healthy lifestyle serves us all well! Please put her phone number in your contact list so if you have any issues on Market day you can contact Sarah directly.

Sarah Rockey 470-767-5655

Hamilton Mill Market pickup is between 2:30 and 4:30pm on Thursday. If you are running late, it is imperative you contact Sarah. We understand that “Life Happens”, but please be considerate of her time!

Market will close at 6:00pm Monday for the Hamilton Mill Market!

A Few Volunteers Still Needed

We are still in need of Volunteers to help with the setup of Market. Our Market Members are a community of folks who want nutrient-dense, fresh, clean food and are dedicated to eating local and supporting our Farmers and Growers. It is necessary to work as a community to continue to bring you the products you shop for each week. Please consider helping out at Market for an hour or two at least ONE Thursday each month. Duties will include: Receiving deliveries from Farmers and Growers; ensuring items are distributed correctly to each order; packaging individual meat items in bags and labeling with Member name; general setup of display items and assisting Sarah as needed. Volunteer hours are anytime between 1:30 and 4:30pm on Thursday.

If you are interested in helping out at the Market, please contact Market Volunteer Coordinator, Chance Claar-Pressley. Thank you Chance! You can email Chance at chancita@gmail.com .

Farmer Updates

Shalley of Carrell Farms has let me know that the ‘Chubs’ of Ground Water Buffalo will NOT be available for several more weeks. Last week folks who ordered a pound of Ground Water Buffalo received a pound of Ground Water Buffalo Patties instead of the ‘Chub’ (packaged roll). This is the same product as the ground, just in different form and packaging.

Vicky Steve Fry of Fry Farm have no offerings on Market this week. Vicky’s Father had back surgery. Please keep him and the Fry Family in your prayers.

Turkey

Several people have asked about Turkey. I am working to find a local source for our Holiday Turkeys and will have more information in next week’s Newsletter. We will have a sign-up sheet for folks who are interested in finding out more about availability at Market this week. Be sure and let us know you are interested. Typically Farmers ask for a deposit, ranging from $25 – $35 when orders are placed. This amount will be paid directly to the Farmer supplying the Turkeys.

…this and that…

The Black Lab has claimed the property as his own! Since there are no ‘leash laws’ here, the sight of dogs meandering down the road behind the house has un-nerved him a bit; but he has let them know that venturing beyond the middle will not be tolerated! (Keep in mind, the yard is fenced!) The biggest issue seems to be the family of cats who live across the street and wander into our yard at night. Due to his history with a very aggressive barn cat when he was a puppy, he has a strong dislike for felines and the yard is scoured every morning to ensure only their scent remains. I shudder at the thought of what will happen if he catches a cat in the yard. So far daylight finds no cats on the property. There are horses and cattle nearby and their calls to each other have him cocking his head and listening intently. Given his affinity for horses and ability as an escape artist, I keep a pretty close eye on him when we are out in the yard! All things considered, he is doing well.

As I begin to unpack and settle in my new home, I continue to marvel at the circumstances that have brought me to this new adventure in my life. I am joyful to awaken to fresh mountain air, gorgeous sights and a sense of peace that had eluded me for some time. The prayers of all of you “Prayer Warriors” truly interceded on my behalf and God blessed me with a beautiful place to call home, friends who assisted in getting me packed up, organized and moved and who continue to encourage me and support me as I make this transition. I am humbled and eternally grateful for His blessings and your love and support.

Thank you for taking the time to read this bit of information!
