There is Still Time to Order..

Market Closes at 8:00pm Monday!

Thank you to those who have already placed orders!

In October we found it necessary to establish minimums for each Market. If the minimum is not met after Market close, you will receive an email letting you know that minimum for the Market was not met and you will be given a choice to pick up at the Lawrenceville location or cancellation of your order. We sincerely hope that this will not be the case; however, at the time of this writing the total for the Market is a little more than 1/2 of the required minimum of $650.

Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide you with what you want from the local Farmers/Growers and Producers; but, please understand that Buying Local means supporting those who are committed to providing ‘Local’! Please continue to share the Market with friends and family!

Check your Grocery List and get your orders in before 8:00pm this evening for delivery on Thursday!

Take me to the Market

Market Tidbits - Please Read

I hope you will take a few minutes to read a little news from the Market this week…

Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide you with what you want from the local Farmers/Growers and Producers; but, please understand that Buying Local means supporting those who are committed to providing ‘Local’!

Tidbits

Please keep Tammy Burnell of Burnell Farms in your prayers. She was hospitalized last Thursday and had Gallbladder surgery. She is recovering but in pain. Please pray for her fast recovery.

…on a happier note…
Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks and her fabulous husband Chuck Wheeler are celebrating their 41st Anniversary tomorrow! Marie does not have items on the Market this week so that they can take time to celebrate.

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary, Marie and Chuck!

Offerings you may want to check out…

Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has outstanding grass-fed Meats! On Special this week are: Boston Butt, Bone-In Pork Shoulder Roast and Thick cut Pork Chops!

Availability of Chicken is still a way off yet. Growing out chickens over the winter is tough in Georgia! They need pasture and worms and warmer ground to get all of the nutrients that make them grow! We are working on finding another source until Greg’s chickens are ready for processing. We will have Ground Chicken and Sausage coming up in the near future!

Burnell Farms is going strong bringing us some great winter veggies! Last week they added Hibiscus Flowers, (great for drying and making Hibiscus Tea), Fennel, Kohlrabi and ‘Cheddar’ Cauliflower. Some of you may remember this Cauliflower which Tammy also offered last year. Slightly orange in color and a mild taste with a creamy texture when cooked!

Don’t forget to check out all of the Organic Baked Good from Dabrielle of My Daily Bread. Pasta Salad, Jams and Jellies and Pumpernickel Bread are on Special this week! Be sure and check them out!

Last week at Crossfit and Hamilton Mill Markets, Carrell Farms had samples of Cranberry/Sage Alpaca Sausage and Basil Sun-Dried Tomato Alpaca Sausage! My favorite is the Cranberry Sage! I would say that the field was pretty evenly split — both have rich flavors with the Cranberry Sage being a tad sweeter than the Sun-Dried Tomato Basil! Perhaps Lilburn Members will break the tie this week when they will have samples available at Market! Both varieties come in 1# packages; however the Cranberry Sage is made in smaller breakfast sized sausages while the Sun-Dried Tomato Basil are ‘full size’! I have already added both to my cart this week. Of course their wonderful Water Buffalo offerings are also available! Try some Soup Bones for wonderful Bone Broth! Add in the Ox Tail for an especially delicious treat! Roasts, steaks, ground …they have it all!

Don’t forget to check out Shalley’s line of Skin Care products. My new favorite is her Silky Bamboo Lotion! A little goes a long way – and it feels exquisite on your skin!

Jay and Patti Parsons of Dances With Bees offer both Honey and Natural Skin Care products made with Honey or Beeswax. Patti’s Beeswax Candles are wonderful, also!

I received an email from Vicky of Fry Farm and she let me know that she does have Rutabagas and Red Spinach available. They are not yet listed on the Market, however, if you would like to order, please email me and let me know. So glad that Vicky, Steve and Matt are back and I look forward to them adding additional offerings as Mother Nature continues toward Spring!

I have spoken with Doug of Doug’s Garden who is busy, busy, busy training new helpers and getting seedlings planted! Doug has told me that this year he is going to be offering a “flat” of lettuce, living! This will enable you to pick your lettuce before your meal! What a cool concept! He is still working out the logistics. Pictures and more details coming soon!

Check your Grocery List and get your orders in before 8:00pm this evening for delivery on Thursday!

Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has outstanding grass-fed Meats! This week he has added Pig Skin that can be fried up as ‘Pork Rinds’ or prepared for your favorite 4 legged furry friend! Have you tried Heritage Farm’s Chuck Roast! I got another one last week and it was fabulous. I seared it on all sides, then put in Crockpot – added onions, potatoes, celery, garlic, carrots and some spices and WOW! Terrific flavor and texture!

Bits and Bites

This was the beauty I beheld Thursday morning! Up in the North Georgia Mountains, some snow still remains even after the warmer temperatures and rain of the last few days! Although Wednesday night’s 6 inches of snow brought back fond memories of my childhood in Ohio and the Black Lab found it to his liking, it meant that travel down to Lawrenceville, Lilburn and Buford was not an option!

I am deeply grateful to Marie Wheeler who coordinated the Crossfit/Lawrenceville Market. Marie unselfishly volunteered to take my place when it appeared the weather would preclude me being at Market. Sarah Rockey and Marie Wheeler braved the cold temperatures to allow Market pickup to happen for both Crossfit and Hamilton Mill Members. Our Lilburn Market Coordinator, Kathy Barnes made the trek to the Crossfit/Lawrenceville, also braving the cold temps inside the Market space to accept and check in the Market orders load the items you ordered, drove to Lilburn, unloaded, set-up and ran the Lilburn Market. You all have my un-ending gratitude for your passion and dedication to our Market.

We are a community of people who believe in procuring the best food for ourselves and our families that is fresh, clean, nutrient dense and grown/produced locally. It is not uncommon on Market Day, hearing Members share recipes, discuss products or the latest ‘food news’. The Coordinators, Volunteers and I so enjoy seeing you all and being a part of connecting you with the ‘best of the best’ local Farmers/Producers and Artisans. Please consider joining us as a Volunteer. Is a few hours once a week, biweekly, one a month to much to ask to help your Community? Please contact Maryanne at 404-432-4337 and I will put you in contact with our Volunteer Coordinator, Susan Coker. We need your help – your time!

With the cold weather and the 2 snow events last week, I was busy in the kitchen. I cooked the Chuck Roast I had ordered from Heritage Farm in the Crock Pot with the little Cream Potatoes and Carrots from Burnell Farms an Organic Onion, spices and WOW ~ it was fabulous! Flavorful and great texture! This is a perfect slow cook meal!

Not too long ago, I was discussing Bone Broth with Pat Gibbon a Member of the Crossfit/Lawrenceville Market. I lamented that it seems I am constantly making Bone Broth because I consume it daily but also want enough to use in soups or use in other recipes. Being a fellow Bone Broth Warrior, Pat explained that she uses her large electric roaster to make her broth. Hmmmm, I have one of those that sits on the shelf, only pulled out once or twice a year to roast the holiday Turkey! Now, instead of ending up with a quart or two of Bone Broth, I am rewarded with a couple of gallons! What a great idea you shared Miss Pat and I certainly am enjoying the fruits of your wisdom! Thank you!

This past week, I tried a new combination consisting of Alpaca Bones, a few Water Buffalo Bones, Lamb Necks Bones and Beef Soup Bones and the result was a wonderful, rich and complex Bone Broth! The meat was picked from the Bones and the remainder of the Chuck Roast added with Carrots, Potatoes, Onions, Brussell Sprouts, Cabbage, Peas, Tomatoes, Green Beans and a little Kale plus some spices and I created a hearty Veggie Soup! Every item in the soup were items purchased through the Market. Some were fresh and some were from the freezer, put up from last year’s Harvest! What is your latest creation?

Specials, New Items, Updates

Although Lamb was a staple of my family’s diet, it was tradition in our home to have a roasted Leg of Lamb on Easter. Greg of Heritage Farm has Leg of Lamb on special this week and I want to take advantage of this sale since Easter is April 5th! He also had the Rib Steak and Minced (Ground) Lamb offered on sale this week!

Greg has also added a Bulk Pack – Organ Feet and Bones consisting of Soup Bones, Pig Feet, Lamb Bones, Fat Back, Chicken Necks and Backs, Turkey Necks, Ham Hocks, Organ Meat. This is 20#‘s of various items for $30.00!! This is a phenomenal deal and if you make your own Pet Food, it is a fabulous find. Needless to say, I got one Bulk Pack for the Black Lab! The offering is limited in number and in frequency of availability! So, grab it now if you want it! You will not be disappointed!

The freezer at Crossfit/Lawrenceville Market still has several packages of frozen Yellow Squash, which Farmer Ricky Brown of Back River Farm put up after the harvest this summer. Perfect to add to soups or casseroles. Please email me if you would like a package to be included with your order this week. Email order for Yellow Squash

Burnell Farms is going strong bringing us some great winter veggies! Broccoli, Brussell Sprouts, Huge heads of Savoy Cabbage, Carrots, yummy Cauliflower, Kale and Romaine Lettuce are all listed in their offerings this week. Tammy just added Young Spinach. I’m in…

I spoke with Doug Ruling of Doug’s Garden yesterday and although he lost his Winter Crops this year, his seedlings for late Winter, Spring and early Summer Crops are growing profusely in his green house. His offerings will be back with us before you know it! Doug is creating some surprises in his offerings for early Spring – look for hints in the next couple of weeks! I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

The Veggie Patch lost power in their green houses in the first snow/ice event a couple of weeks ago. Some items made it through and are listed in their offerings. Andrew and crew are working hard, harvesting and planting! Did you know The Veggie Patch also has other offerings? Check our their Herbs (medicinal and culinary), Pickles, Sauces and Juices and Bloody Mary Mix!

Carrell Farms has delicious Water Buffalo and they have recently added Alpaca to their offerings. This week at all Markets, there will be samples of Alpaca Sausages! Cranberry-Sage and Basil-Sun Dried Tomato sound like intriguing combinations and something that must be tried!

Between Marie of Bakery on Brooks, our Gluten Free Master Baker and Dabrielle of My Daily Bread, our Whole Grains Master Baker, we can all enjoy fresh, organic, local Baked Goods. From Breads to Paleo Treats, Cookies to Cornbread these creative and talented ladies can supply us with nutritious products for our families.

Markets close at 8:00pm Monday. Please remember that minimums must be met for each Market to ensure delivery by our Farmers! Be sure and get your order in and thank you for supporting our LOCAL Farmers!

Greetings All:

Just a reminder that Market closes at 8:00pm tonight.

Lauren Stephens, the former Market Coordinator for the Crossfit/Lawrenceville Market has gotten a promotion at her “real” job. Congratulations, Lauren! This great opportunity for Lauren has left the position of Market Coordinator open at Crossfit. Interested in helping out? Hours are 3:00pm to 6:30ish every Thursday or every other Thursday. Please contact me at 404-432-4337 if you would like to volunteer or have questions. I will be coordinating Crossfit for the time being.

Jeff and Tammy of Peacefield Farm had an issue in their Greenhouse, however, they are back with tomatoes ~ definitely on my list this week!

With the cold and ice last week; The Veggie Patch was without electricity to a couple of their greenhouses and had to cancel their orders. I am glad to see that they are back this week!

It is not to late to help out with Tammy Burnells youth organization’s project. Tammy’s girls were able to attend the Georgia Organics Conference this past weekend. Funds are still needed to make up the deficient! For My Daughters’ Sake mission speaks to my heart! Please give a little something this week at Market pickup!

Thanks go out to Kathy Barnes and her crew over at the Lilburn Market! Susan Coker and Sue Martinson, Geni Wallace, Nancy Tuck, Brigitte Rossi you all give your time so Market can continue to serve the community and bring nutrient dense, clean and local food to folks! Please know your help and teamwork is greatly appreciated.

Kathy, as the fearless leader at Lilburn sorts items delivered at Crossfit each week, loads them in her car, unloads them at Lilburn and ensures that everything is in place when Members walk through the door to pickup their order.

I know it is a thankless task! Although I have tried to paint a picture for folks, people do not realize all of the ‘steps’ that make Market happen! Perhaps you can’t unless you participate! But I do — to the Coordinators and Volunteers – I am in your debt!

Thankfully, Miss Sarah has returned from the West Coast and will be back at Hamilton Mill this week. Thanks to Karen Thain and Surata Wood and her daughter for all of the assistance with getting set up last week!

Also thanks go out to Dabrielle and Bruce Wills for the use of their Cargo Van which allowed all of the items for Market to be transported in 1 trip! The use of the van also allowed me to leave the heaviest items, (milk and meat) in coolers in the van for folks to collect on the way out to their cars! Since I cannot lift over 4lbs, all of the help was invaluable! Please know I appreciate you all! Sarah will see you on Thursday!

The weather up here in the mountains is turning nasty; but The Black Lab and I are prepared. I pray that everyone will remain safe and warm down Atlanta way! By Thursday things should be dry but COLD and I will be making the trip down to Lawrenceville!

Thanks for your support! See you Crossfit folks on Thursday!
